FICAC Condemns Attacks on Consular Missions in Haiti and Appeals for UN Intervention

The World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) is issuing this urgent statement in light of the recent and alarming events taking place in the Republic of Haiti. A grave situation has unfolded as the country currently faces a governmental vacuum, leading to a significant deterioration in law and order. This chaos has precipitated violent assaults on honorary consular missions, a development that FICAC vehemently condemns.

The role of consular missions is pivotal in fostering international cooperation, providing essential services, and protecting the interests of citizens abroad. Attacks on these missions not only disrupt these critical functions but also violate international conventions and the sanctity of diplomatic and consular relations.

FICAC urgently calls on the United Nations to take immediate and decisive action to safeguard the security of all consular posts in Haiti. It is imperative that the UN employs all necessary measures to restore peace and stability, ensuring the protection of diplomatic and consular personnel, premises, and the citizens they serve.

The Federation extends its full support to the consular corps in Haiti during this challenging time and stands in solidarity with the people of Haiti as they navigate this period of uncertainty. FICAC urges the international community to come together in condemning these attacks and to assist in any way possible to resolve the crisis.

The World Federation of Consuls remains committed to the principles of diplomatic relations and will continue to advocate for the safety and security of consular missions around the globe.

About FICAC The International Federation of Consular Corps and Associations (aka World Federation of Consuls) is a global organization representing the interests of consular officers and aims to enhance the effectiveness of consuls for the benefit of the international community.
